The platform supply vessel Blue Queen, an ULSTEIN PX121 design constructed at Ulstein Verft in Norway, has received the highest ESI (Environmental Ship Index) score of 100 points from the World Port Climate Initiative (WPCI), Ulstein has informed. The vessel is owned by Blue Ship Invest AS and managed by Golden Energy Offshore.

Ulstein explains in its statement: “The top score is derived from a calculation of the reduced emissions of e.g. NOx, SOx and CO2. A number of elements must work together in order to receive a top score. For this vessel, the score was achieved by the dedication from the ship’s crew, the manager’s awareness through their management systems, which are certified with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and OHSAS 18001, and the ship’s design and on-board system solutions.”

Discounts & Statoil contracts

Due to the ESI score, the vessel receives a 50% discount in calls to a number of ports, and the same discount in the Pilotage Readiness Fee. Additionally, Ulstein says, Statoil has called on all shipowners and vessels to keep an updated ESI, and has informed that in the future this will be a requirement for all vessels chartered by Statoil.

Also, it is important to realise that this will not only reduce the environmental impact of our operations, but it also introduces an economic incentive for owners and managers to raise their standards as it presents an identifiable measure for Charterers to compare vessels,” comments Per Ivar Fagervoll of Golden Energy Offshore.
