Aker BP ASA has engaged Multiconsult Norge AS for a civil engineering contract to facilitate the electrification of the Yggdrasil area oil and gas project in the Norwegian North Sea. The power-from-shore project, set to commence this month, aims to supply stable and eco-friendly power to the Yggdrasil field.
The Yggdrasil development, which encompasses several discoveries and holds approximately 650 million barrels of oil equivalent, is currently under construction, with production expected to begin in 2027.
The $36.49 million (NOK 400 million) contract with Multiconsult, valid until 2027, involves consultancy and supervision services related to power license preparation, environmental assessments, regulatory dialogue, and site work.
Aker BP recently obtained a license to connect Yggdrasil's platforms to the Vestland country power grid, marking a significant milestone. The electrification project covers 4.97 miles (eight kilometers) of power lines and includes a new transformer station, a powerline, a compensation station, and a sea cable.
Tormod Huseby, the manager of the power-from-shore project, emphasized Multiconsult's significant contribution to the Yggdrasil electrification effort.
Yggdrasil is part of Aker BP's broader construction projects in the North Sea, which also include the Skarv Satellite Project and the Valhall field extension project. Yggdrasil, with estimated investments of $10.49 billion (NOK 115 billion), is expected to create over 65,000 man-years of work in Norway during its development and operational phases.
