Beach Energy Announces Gas Discovery at Trigg Northwest 1 in Australia's Perth Basin
Australian oil and gas exploration company Beach Energy has unveiled a significant gas discovery at Trigg Northwest 1, marking the fourth well in the Perth Basin gas exploration campaign. This well, the second operated by Beach Energy, reached a total depth of 5,000 meters and successfully intersected gas within the targeted Kingia Sandstone reservoir.
Although no gas pay was identified in the secondary High Cliff and Wagina reservoirs, logging data gathered during drilling revealed a promising outcome. The Kingia Sandstone reservoir exhibited a net gas pay of six meters across a 49-meter gross section. Notably, gas samples were extracted from the Kingia reservoir using wireline tools and successfully brought to the surface.
In light of the discovery, Trigg Northwest 1 will undergo casing and completion procedures, enabling future tests to assess productivity, connectivity, and commercial viability. Subsequently, the drilling rig will be relocated to the Tarantula Deep 1 well location, located approximately 16 kilometers west of Trigg Northwest 1.
Bruce Clement, Interim Chief Executive Officer, expressed his satisfaction with the positive outcome of the Trigg Northwest 1 well. He highlighted the overall success of the Perth Basin gas exploration campaign, which has yielded two discoveries from the initial four wells.
Clement emphasized Beach Energy's dedication to investing in exploration activities within the Perth Basin acreage, aiming to bolster new gas supply for the domestic market in Western Australia. With multiple wells remaining in the ongoing campaign, further updates are anticipated as the exploration efforts continue to unfold.
