Denmark's Tyra Redevelopment Project Gears Up for Early 2024 Production Resumption

BlueNord, a key partner in the TotalEnergies-operated Tyra Redevelopment Project in Denmark, announced Wednesday that the project is on track to commence production in the early first quarter of 2024.
The Tyra field, Denmark's largest offshore gas field, had been a significant source of natural gas production in the Danish North Sea, contributing over 90% of the country's output since the mid-1980s. However, it was shut down in September 2019 for a comprehensive redevelopment process prompted by natural subsidence in the chalk reservoir, a consequence of prolonged production.
The extensive redevelopment efforts at the Tyra field involved a three-pronged strategy, including the decommissioning and recycling of the old Tyra platforms, the extension of current platform legs by 13 meters on six platforms, installation of new topsides, a revamped process module, and a brand-new accommodation platform.
BlueNord highlighted the significant progress made during the quarter, with the successful completion of all subsea work, including the reconnection of satellite fields to the Tyra hub. Additionally, substantial strides were achieved in the crucial process systems necessary for export, with leak testing finalized on the most complex systems.
In light of the streamlined startup strategy, BlueNord announced an accelerated ramp-up, targeting early Q1 2024 for first gas and Q2 2024 for reaching plateau production. This revised timeline facilitates a more efficient execution of the remaining essential tasks before the introduction of hydrocarbons, leading to an earlier attainment of plateau production.
BlueNord expects the Tyra field to deliver greater volumes in 2024 than previously forecast, prompting a reassessment of the long-term production outlook. The revised profile anticipates an upward adjustment in the contribution from Tyra for 2024, reflecting the project's enhanced efficiency and accelerated production schedule.
TotalEnergies has previously emphasized that the modernized Tyra II, upon resuming operations, will emerge as one of the most advanced natural gas fields globally. It is expected to supply 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas annually to Denmark and Europe via the export pipelines to Nybro and Den Helder, reinforcing Denmark's role in regional energy supply.
