ExxonMobil Reports 'Significant Discovery' in Guyana's Stabroek Block
ExxonMobil, a leading U.S.-based energy corporation, has announced the successful drilling of the Lancetfish-2 appraisal well, marking the fourth offshore oil discovery in Guyana this year within the Stabroek block. The Guyana Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has described the recent finding as a "significant discovery," unveiling promising prospects for the region's hydrocarbon potential.
According to the MNR's report, the Lancetfish-2 discovery in the Liza Petroleum Production License area has revealed an estimated 20 meters of hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir, accompanied by an additional 81 meters of hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone. This discovery is expected to undergo a comprehensive appraisal process, aligning with the ongoing appraisal activities pertaining to other discoveries in the region.
This recent Lancetfish-2 discovery contributes to a cumulative total of 46 discoveries made from 2015 to the present, signifying the sustained exploration success in the Stabroek block. Notably, other significant discoveries made earlier this year include Fangtooth SE-1 and Lancetfish-1 within the Stabroek block, along with the Wei-1 discovery in the Corentyne block, showcasing the growing potential of the Guyanese offshore oil sector.
The Stabroek block, spanning 6.6 million acres or 26,800 square kilometers, is overseen by ExxonMobil's affiliate Esso Exploration and Production Guyana, holding a 45% interest in the venture. Hess Guyana Exploration and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana serve as the company's partners in the block, contributing 30% and 25% interests, respectively, to the collaborative exploration efforts in the region.
