Fire Erupts at Kuwaiti Oil Facility, Injuring Workers
A fire broke out at the Al Shuala facility, an onshore oil line operated by Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), resulting in injuries to up to 14 workers. This incident, the second in recent months impacting Kuwaiti oil and gas facilities, occurred during scheduled periodic maintenance at the facility. The fire broke out in the torch line during maintenance work carried out by contractor employees.
KOC confirmed the incident, stating that the situation was swiftly brought under control, and the assembly centre is now under complete isolation. The injured workers were promptly transferred to specialized hospitals for necessary medical care. Fortunately, there was no impact on production operations due to the rapid response in controlling the situation.
This incident follows a previous one in July when Kuwait's Al-Zour refinery experienced a fire, which was successfully brought under control by the Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company (KIPIC) without any reported injuries. The recent fire highlights the challenges and risks associated with maintaining and operating oil and gas facilities, emphasizing the importance of robust safety measures in the industry.
