Fugro, a global geo-data specialist, has secured full ownership of SEA-KIT International through a binding agreement. SEA-KIT International, a longstanding collaborator with Fugro, specializes in the development of uncrewed surface vessels (USV) for maritime operations and research aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
Over the years, Fugro and SEA-KIT have jointly pushed the boundaries of USV technology, achieving milestones such as delivering the first commercially available remotely operated USV and an electric-powered remotely operated vehicle (ROV) combi solution for offshore asset inspection and monitoring. The partnership also marked the completion of the world's first fully remote inspection of offshore wind farm assets using a USV and integrated ROV.
Ben Simpson, the CEO and founder of SEA-KIT International, has played a crucial role in reshaping the maritime industry through his leadership and entrepreneurial spirit. The acquisition reflects Fugro's commitment to advancing innovation in the autonomous maritime sector.
Henk van Dalen, Director Blue Robotics at Fugro, expressed excitement about welcoming the SEA-KIT team into the Fugro family. The integration aims to leverage SEA-KIT's expertise and expand its product offerings in the maritime industry. The transaction is expected to conclude by the end of 2023, subject to customary closing conditions.
Fugro's acquisition of SEA-KIT International aligns with its strategy to drive advancements in the autonomous maritime sector, providing cost-effective and environmentally sustainable solutions. Future developments include the launch of the next generation of USVs, such as the Blue Eclipse 18-meter USV designed for fast pipeline and deep-water asset inspections, along with a zero-emissions hydrogen-powered USV.
