Massive Gina Krog Jacket Installation - Video
Late June 2015, the jacket for the new Statoil-operated Gina Krog platform was launched on the field in the Norwegian part of the North Sea. The video above shows the jacket being lowered into the sea.
Including rigging and buoyancy tanks the jacket weighed more than 17 000 tons, more than twice the steel weight of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Statoil said.
The Gina Krog jacket, constructed by Heerema Fabrication Group, is now secured to the seabed with 18 more than 90 meter long piles, and summer 2015 drilling on the Gina Krog field will start through the jacket. It is the largest launch jacket ever to be constructed at HFG’s Vlissingen fabrication facility.
The Gina Krog field is located 30 kilometers northwest of the Sleipner field and around 250 kilometers southwest of Stavanger, Norway. The development has an estimated 225 million barrels of oil and gas.
