North Sea Worker Dies at Home After Being Airlifted From Total Platform with Suspected Corona Virus
An offshore worker has died at home after being airlifted from a North Sea platform earlier this week with suspected coronavirus symptoms.
The man, who worked for Dyce-based oil and gas contractor Stork, is understood to have been removed from the asset and taken to Sheffield, where he died.
He was airlifted from Total's Elgin platform on Monday after becoming unwell. He was flown home to self issolate but died at his home on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for Stork said: “Sadly, we have been informed of the passing of one of our colleagues at home.
Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with his family, friends and teammates.
Our main focus now is to provide support to his family and our colleagues at Stork throughout these difficult times.”
A spokesman for Total said: “We have been informed of the sad death at home of one of our contractors.
“Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
It is unclear why the man wasn't flown to hospital but current government advice is to self issolate at home unless you are experiencing breathing difficulties.
