Equinor ASA has chosen Ocean Installer for the execution of an extensive engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract for the Eirin subsea tie-back development in the North Sea. The contract encompasses various critical components such as the installation of structures, flexibles, umbilical, seabed rectification, tie-ins, and commissioning.
Furthermore, the contract includes the design, fabrication, and installation of glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) covers and spools. While the financial details of the contract were not disclosed, the project also entails an option for a new gas export solution from Troll B via the existing Kvitebjørn export pipeline. Both the Eirin field and the additional gas export solution are slated for completion by 2025, contributing significantly to the European gas market.
The Eirin field, discovered in 1978, is anticipated to deliver about 27.6 million barrels of oil equivalent, with the majority comprising natural gas. This subsea facility will be linked to the Gina Krog platform in the North Sea, thereby extending the productive life of the Gina Krog field and facilitating the exploration of new reserves in the region.
Equinor's commitment to the Eirin field development aligns with its efforts to optimize production and explore new reserves, with the ultimate goal of reducing CO2 emissions while bolstering profitability. The strategic utilization of existing infrastructure demonstrates Equinor's dedication to sustainable and efficient energy production.
Kevin Murphy, CEO of Ocean Installer, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, emphasizing the company's commitment to supporting Equinor's fast-track projects like Eirin and the potential Troll B Gas Export initiative. Ocean Installer's recent track record with the Subsea Lines Modification (SLM) Project 2023-2025 at the Visund, Vigdis, and Asgard fields and the Northern Lights CO2 Pipeline underscores its expertise and capabilities in executing complex offshore projects.
The Eirin field development, alongside the ambitious Northern Lights carbon capture and storage value chain project, demonstrates the continued commitment of Equinor and its partners to enhancing the Norwegian Continental Shelf's energy landscape and advancing sustainable energy initiatives.
