P&J Live Issues Message to Climate Activists Ahead of Offshore Europe Conference
Aberdeen's P&J Live arena has conveyed a message to climate activists in anticipation of the upcoming Offshore Europe Conference. The events complex emphasized its respect for people's right to protest while underscoring its disapproval of "disruptive action" causing alarm and inconvenience to the public.
With just over two weeks remaining until the prominent Offshore Europe exhibition commences in Aberdeen, the city prepares for the conference's return after the virtual program in 2021 due to the pandemic.
In the backdrop of heightened climate activism in the UK, P&J Live is closely collaborating with stakeholders and relevant authorities to ensure a secure environment for exhibitors and visitors during the event. The last in-person conference in 2019 saw climate group Extinction Rebellion's "die-in" protest outside P&J Live against the oil and gas industry. Given the current attention on the industry and the North Sea, similar actions are anticipated during this conference.
P&J Live's spokesperson stated, "While we respect people's right to protest, we do not condone disruptive action that can cause alarm and inconvenience to the public."
Climate activists in the UK have escalated their protests, demanding an immediate halt to oil and gas production. These calls have prompted the UK government to address climate concerns while continuing with plans for North Sea exploration licensing rounds.
Police Scotland has assured the implementation of a policing plan to ensure a safe and secure environment during the Offshore Europe Conference and Exhibition.
As climate activism gains momentum, the oil and gas industry faces mounting pressure to address environmental concerns while balancing the energy demands crucial for economies and societies.
