Perenco Submits Plans to Decommission Four North Sea Platforms
Perenco has submitted plans to decommission four gas platforms in the UK North Sea to the Oil and Gas Authority.
The plans detail the removal of four topsides on the Yorkshire coast, A1d, A2D, B1D and C1D at the Amethyst Field.
If approved the removal of the topsides would commence late 2023 with the last one being removed by the third quarter of 2024.
The field was discovered by Britoil in 1970. Perenco took over operatorship from BP in 2012.
Perenco said that they have explored all avenues for continuing production, but the field has been deemed uneconomic due to high operational costs and a reduction of gas production.
Perenco plans to remove the topsides with the use of jack-up barges but have said that will depend on availability.
Once the installations are made hydrocarbon free, they will be removed immediately or left in “lighthouse mode”.
Separate decommissioning plans will be made for the jackets and connecting pipelines.
