Shearwater GeoServices, based in Norway, and Petrobras, the Brazilian state-owned oil and gas giant, have joined forces in a multi-year collaborative technology agreement aimed at revolutionizing seismic exploration and field developments in Brazil.
The partnership will focus on industrializing Shearwater's marine vibratory source technology and associated services for use in the Brazilian offshore basins.
Roberta Alves Mendes, Reservoir Technology General Manager at Cenpes Petrobras, emphasized that the project's objective is to expedite the exploration and development of Brazilian fields by enhancing operational efficiency, introducing innovative geophysical improvements, and better controlling seismic frequencies emitted in Brazilian waters.
At the core of this initiative is Shearwater's marine vibrator, known by the engineering name "project BASS." This technology is poised to deliver substantial improvements in operational efficiency, seismic data quality, and reduced sound emissions compared to traditional methods, according to the Norwegian company.
Irene Waage Basili, CEO at Shearwater, highlighted the historic nature of the collaboration, stating, "This historic collaboration merges cutting-edge technology and innovation with our well-established business rapport with Petrobras in Brazil. The combination of this groundbreaking seismic source with our in-house Pearl node technology empowers Shearwater and Petrobras to elevate the standards of quality, efficiency, and sustainability within the realm of seismic solutions."
The collaboration not only aims to advance exploration and development efforts but also emphasizes a commitment to sustainability by reducing environmental impact, particularly in terms of sound emissions.
In a related move, Shearwater GeoServices has recently formed a strategic alliance with Norway's Argeo, with the shared goal of driving innovation and pioneering new technology and products across the subsea and ocean bottom node (OBN) markets. This alliance positions Shearwater at the forefront of technological advancements in the offshore energy sector.
