Sparrows Group, an engineering and maintenance services specialist, has been awarded a significant contract worth $13 million for the replacement of cranes on four offshore platforms in the Middle East. The project is expected to last 18 months and involves the replacement of four BOS Liebherr cranes that have exceeded their expected operational life.
As part of the contract, Sparrows will handle all aspects of the engineering work, including crane interfaces, installation, commissioning, and testing. The company will also develop engineered lift plans for the removal and installation of the cranes using a lift barge, which will be supplied by the main contractor along with the new cranes. The project will be executed in two phases, with the first phase taking place onshore at Sparrows' Abu Dhabi facility and workshop, and the second phase offshore.
Charlie Topp, Regional Director for the Middle East, India, Caspian, and Asia Pacific at Sparrows, expressed the significance of this contract win and highlighted the company's extensive track record in the Middle East. He emphasized the confidence of operators and contractors in the region to rely on Sparrows' expertise for safety critical work. Topp also emphasized the importance of deploying new infrastructure in situations where ongoing and frequent maintenance is impacting operations.
While Sparrows will undertake the majority of the scope of work, the company has partnered with a trusted local partner to handle structural fabrication, electrical work, public address and general alarm systems, fire and gas systems, and telecoms as part of the full scope of work.
This contract adds to Sparrows' recent wins, including a contract with INEOS FPS for crane and lifting equipment operations, maintenance, engineering, and inspection services on their North Sea platform. The company continues to solidify its position as a leading provider of engineering and maintenance services in the energy sector.
