TechnipFMC, headquartered in the UK, has been awarded another contract in Angola, this time securing a multi-million dollar deal for the installation of flexible pipe and associated subsea structures at the Girassol life extension project (GIR LIFEX). The project is operated by TotalEnergies EP Angola, a subsidiary of the French energy giant TotalEnergies.
This significant contract is expected to range between $75 million and $250 million. TechnipFMC was previously selected by TotalEnergies EP Angola and its Block 17 partners for the engineering, procurement, and supply of subsea flowlines and connectors for the same GIR LIFEX project.
Jonathan Landes, President of Subsea at TechnipFMC, emphasized the company's expertise and experience with the Girassol field, as it had previously been involved in building subsea tree systems for the original Girassol development. He stated, "It gives us immense pride that our long-term clients continue to show trust and confidence in our solutions through subsequent awards."
The Girassol field, located 210 kilometers off the coast of Luanda in Block 17, was discovered in 1996. Covering an area of 14 by 10 kilometers, it was the first of the Block 17 fields to commence production in December 2001. Notably, the Girassol field marked Angola's pioneering deepwater project, utilizing a subsea facility tied back to a floating production, storage, and offloading unit (FPSO).
This contract follows TechnipFMC's recent involvement in the Ndungu project offshore Angola, where it partnered with Azule Energy, a joint venture between BP and Eni, along with Aker Solutions."
