TotalEnergies and its partner, the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), have commenced production in the first phase of the Absheron gas and condensate field in the Caspian Sea. Located approximately 100 km southeast of Baku, this milestone marks the connection of a subsea production well to a new gas processing platform, which is linked to SOCAR's existing facilities in Oil Rocks.
The initial phase of development boasts a production capacity of 4 million cubic meters of gas per day and 12,000 barrels of condensate per day. The gas will be supplied to the domestic market in Azerbaijan. With a 50% interest each, TotalEnergies and SOCAR jointly operate the project through the Joint Operating Company of Absheron Petroleum (JOCAP).
Nicolas Terraz, President of Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies, expressed his satisfaction with the start-up of the Absheron gas field, emphasizing its alignment with the company's strategy to meet the increasing demand for gas while maintaining competitive technical costs and low greenhouse gas emissions. The achievement further strengthens the partnership between TotalEnergies and SOCAR.
TotalEnergies has been actively involved in Azerbaijan since 1996 and holds a 50% stake in the Absheron gas and condensate field alongside SOCAR. Additionally, the company has a 5% interest in the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, demonstrating its long-standing commitment to the region's energy sector.
The collaboration between TotalEnergies and SOCAR marks an important milestone in unlocking the potential of the Absheron offshore field, contributing to the energy supply of Azerbaijan and supporting its growing gas demand.
