Vår Energi, a prominent player in Norway's oil and gas industry, has partnered with Vissim, a leading software developer and marine optimization system provider, to implement an advanced oil spill detection solution at its facilities on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). The upgrade includes cloud-based technology adhering to the highest IT security standards, fulfilling regulatory requirements for oil spill monitoring and detection regardless of weather conditions. This comprehensive solution leverages machine learning and artificial intelligence to reduce false alarms and improve the system's reliability, resulting in decreased operational stress and enhanced cost-effectiveness.
The collaboration with Vissim aims to equip both the FPSO Balder and the Ringhorne processing platform with state-of-the-art oil spill detection capabilities, enhancing the overall quality of oil spill monitoring while also enabling vessel tracking. Vissim's innovative radar-based technology has undergone significant development over 1.5 years, incorporating feedback from NCS operators to create a solution that minimizes false alarms and enhances sensitivity to detect smaller oil spills effectively.
In addition to these advancements, Vår Energi remains committed to its strategic projects, including the Balder X initiative, which seeks to extend the Balder field's production beyond 2045. The company has revised cost estimates to ensure efficient resource allocation and improved construction productivity. Vår Energi's broader plans involve increasing production to over 350,000 barrels per day by the end of 2025, with additional potential stemming from its acquisition of Neptune Energy Norway. The company also emphasizes its dedication to decarbonization efforts, exemplified by collaborations in offshore wind projects in the Barents Sea.
Furthermore, Vår Energi has recently engaged Halliburton for a comprehensive five-year drilling services contract across its strategic hubs in the Balder/Grane area, the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea, and the Barents Sea. The company has also leased a sixth-generation semi-submersible rig from COSL Drilling Europe, demonstrating its commitment to expanding its exploration activities in the Barents Sea and enhancing hydrocarbon exploration efforts in the region.
