Well-Safe Solutions, an Aberdeen-based decommissioning services provider, has further solidified its collaboration with Spirit Energy by securing an agreement to extend the scope of work for the Well-Safe Defender semi-submersible rig. The expanded scope will encompass the decommissioning of a well from the Appleton field, enhancing the backlog of the Well-Safe Defender with approximately one month of additional work.

Originally discovered in 1997 by Amoco and Amerada Hess, the Appleton field, located 160 miles east of Dundee, represents the latest addition to the roster of decommissioning projects undertaken by Well-Safe Solutions in collaboration with Spirit Energy. The Well-Safe Defender, which was mobilized in March for the purpose of plugging and abandoning 14 wells on the UK continental shelf, has demonstrated excellent performance and operational efficiency, prompting Spirit Energy to extend its partnership with Well-Safe Solutions.

Chris Hay, Director of Strategy and Commercial at Well-Safe Solutions, highlighted the collaborative approach that has been instrumental in fostering safe and efficient well decommissioning operations. The contract extension from Spirit Energy serves as an acknowledgment of the Well-Safe Defender's impressive track record and the dedication of its crew.

Nicky Riley, Head of Wells for Spirit Energy, emphasized the importance of Well-Safe's strong performance in accelerating the decommissioning of the Appleton well, aligning with Spirit Energy's strategic focus on de-risking and expediting decommissioning operations.

This recent contract win builds upon Well-Safe Solutions' recent foray into Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) projects, reflecting the company's commitment to expanding its services into the energy transition sector. The appointment of Alexa Duncan as the company's first-ever energy transition manager further underscores Well-Safe Solutions' dedication to embracing emerging industry trends and technologies.
