Wintershall Dea AG, in collaboration with its partners, recently achieved the first gas production at the ED-2X ST1 well situated in the East Damanhur block within the onshore Nile Delta in Egypt. This successful gas production, which amounts to roughly 10 million standard cubic feet per day, is expected to contribute significantly to meeting the growing energy demand in Egypt. The well, positioned just three kilometers away from the Disouq field, was seamlessly integrated into the Disouq facilities in a mere two months following its discovery in January. Wintershall Dea, with a 40 percent interest, operates the well in conjunction with Cheiron Energy and INA, holding 40 percent and 20 percent interests, respectively.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable operations in Egypt, emphasizing the reduction of routine flaring and maintaining production levels. Additionally, Wintershall Dea reported third-quarter results, with an adjusted net income of $64.6 million and EBITDAX of $1.02 billion, attributing the decline in figures to the challenging commodity price environment. The company's quarterly production, amounting to 324,000 barrels of oil equivalent, faced a minor setback due to unforeseen maintenance at the Aasta Hansteen and Skarv fields in Norway.
Moreover, Wintershall Dea's recent progress includes the extension of the Maria field's production offshore Norway through the installation of an additional subsea template. The Maria Phase 2 project aims to add approximately 27 million barrels of oil equivalent to the total field reserves by 2025. Wintershall Dea, operating in 11 countries globally, continues to explore and produce gas and oil, making strides toward sustainable energy solutions while actively participating in the midstream business, particularly in natural gas transport. The company's formation in 2019 resulted from the merger of Wintershall Holding GmbH and DEA Deutsche Erdoel AG.
