PETRONAS has announced the successful commencement of gas production from the Timi field, situated in Block SK318 approximately 200 kilometers off the coast of Sarawak, offshore Malaysia. Gas production from Timi field began on August 22, 2023.
Block SK318 is operated by Sarawak Shell Berhad, holding a 75 percent participating interest. PETRONAS Carigali Sdn. Bhd. and Brunei Energy Exploration hold 15 percent and 10 percent participating interests, respectively, in the same block.
The Timi field development encompasses the installation of a new wellhead fixed platform, which is connected to the F23 production hub via an 80-kilometer pipeline. Remarkably, this platform, positioned in water depths of about 143 meters, represents Malaysia's deepest fixed platform to date. It has been designed for unmanned operation and is powered by a hybrid solar and wind energy system, boasting an exceptional capability to produce up to 300 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) while consuming less than 5 kilowatts of continuous power generation.
Mohamed Firouz Asnan, PETRONAS Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), expressed his satisfaction with the project's outcome, highlighting the optimization efforts by Shell. He also emphasized the collaboration among the Block SK318 Contractors, service providers, and the Sarawak State Government, which played a pivotal role in achieving this milestone. The project was completed within a span of two years since the Final Investment Decision (FID), coinciding with the post-Covid-19 pandemic recovery period.
The adoption of cleaner and more sustainable energy sources to power offshore facilities in Malaysia aligns with MPM's strategy, contributing to the creation of a greener upstream industry.
